DEVELOPMENT OF AGRARIAN SECTOR

Agrarian sector has important significance to the region’s economy. 
Gross agricultural product amounted to 786.3 billion soums (625 million US dollars) in 2007; growth rate constituted 108.4% compared to similar period of previous year. Agriculture products comprise around 60% and cattle-breeding products comprise 40%.
Favorable climatic conditions of Ferghana region allow obtaining big harvests of fruits and vegetables products with unique taste.
In Ferghana region, there are annually grown more than 280 thousand tons of cotton, 650 thousand tons of grain as well as following fruits and vegetables products: more than 100 thousand tons of potatoes, 310 thousand tons of vegetables, 160 thousand tons of fruits, 24 thousand tons melons and gourds and 44 thousand tons of grape.
In cattle-breeding sector, there are annually produced more tan 75 thousand tons of meat, 460 thousand tons of milk, 110 million pieces of eggs, 630 tons of wool and 2 million tons of silkworm cocoons.
In the region, there are conducting business 9 enterprises processing fruits and vegetables products, producing tomato paste, fruit juices, dried fruits, canned fruits and vegetable products.
